Rock N Java
Well known by regular visitors to Cozumel and those who live here, Rock N Java is a great place for good food at reasonable prices. It’s air conditioned, and there is a WiFi signal there.
They offer a good selection of vegetarian food too. Located on the main oceanfront street, Ave. Rafael
Melgar, they are on the west side of the street (the oceanfront side) between Calle 11 and Punta Langosta Plaza. There is a large parking lot just across the street
that charges 10 pesos (about $1 U.S.) per hour. |
| Rock N Java has also opened another location, and it is the Rock N Java Thai Noodle Bar It’s on Calle 11. It’s about ½ block off the oceanfront street. |
Drugstore/Pharmacy
Located on Calle 3 about ½ block off the main oceanfront street, Ave. Rafael Melgar, you’ll find American Discount Drugstore. They have a wide assortment of medicine, and the majority of medicine that is prescription in the U.S. is sold over the counter in Mexico. The exception to that are medications that are control substances (things such as valium or ambian) and those types of medications need a doctors prescription in Mexico also.
If you plan to look for medicine in Mexico to see if it may be less expensive than in the U.S. we suggest you bring along your prescription bottle that has the name of the medication and the dosage. American Discount Drugstore has a Physicians Desk Reference and they
can look it up and then be able to find the name of the medicine in Mexico. |

Local Artist
At the recent Humane Society Art Auction I bought a figure of a seahorse that I found amusing. I liked it so much I found out how to get in touch with the artist and visited him at his workshop. I purchased another figure as a gift for a friend and then asked the artist if he could do one of an iguana for me.
The artists name is Javier Soler and he has a workshop
on Calle 5 near the corner of Ave. 25. You can reach him by email
at tiburonpata@yahoo.com or
his cell phone number is 987 113-5497 |

Bicycles and bike repair
This shop is an excellent place to buy a bicycle or to have one repaired. It
is called Bicimotos and it is on Ave. 30, between Calle 1 and Juarez.
This is where I bought my bicycle several years ago and where I've
bought accessories and had repairs done at very reasonable prices. |

Swimming pool care products
The name of this store is Piscinas y Servicios and it is located on Ave. 30 between Calle 5 and Calle Morelos. Here you can buy the pool chemicals and equipment you need to care for you pool and they also sell water softeners, whole house filters and UV water purification systems.
If you don’t have a pool but are interested in one, they can take care of that too. |

More about VivaAerobus – flights from Austin, TX
Recently, guests from the Austin, TX area came to Cozumel for a vacation, and they did fly on VivaAerobus from Austin, TX to Cancun and then to a bus from the Cancun airport to Playa del Carmen and the ferry to Cozumel. We asked about their experience and they replied: "Our VivaAerobus experience was fine, no problems or delays, and very good value. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap flight - if you book ahead it can be as little as $10! We flew to Cancun and did the taxi/ferry/rental car route - which was fun!"
The rates quoted don’t include taxes, and taxes will add an additional $80-$85 each way to the ticket price.
If you are in the area of Austin, TX and can book your tickets for somewhere between $9.99 and
$99.99 each way plus tax it's a good deal. By the time they add tax your round trip will be in the range of $180 to
$380 per person. Getting from the Cancun airport to Cozumel can be done for about $20-$21 per person by taking the bus from the Cancun airport to Playa del Carmen and ferry to Cozumel..

Curtains and Blinds
There is now a Hunter Douglas store in Cozumel and it says “Cortinas Persianas” which means curtains and blinds. This new store is in the Chedraui shopping center on the main oceanfront street, Ave. Rafael Melgar at the corner of Calle 15. One note about Calle 15…some of the street signs that were put up a couple of years ago now call Calle 15 Ave. Xel Ha. |
|
EXCHANGE RATE
During July, the exchange rate that we saw at the money exchanges and the banks when changing dollars into pesos on Cozumel varied from
9.6 to 9.7 pesos to the U.S. dollar.
Gracias y hasta luego,
